Mr Khera went to medical school at Liverpool University; he taught physiology and was awarded an intercalated BSc (Hons) Physiology in 1995 researching molecular pain producing substances. He qualified with an MBChB in 1998. Most of his surgical training took place in the Mersey deanery, where he completed his MRCS; he subsequently spent 12 months as a registrar in Brisbane Australia in 2003 where he learnt laparoscopic gastro-intestinal surgery. After returning to Merseyside he successfully completed his FRCS in 2010; he then obtained his Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) – Specialist GMC Register 2010. He subsequently undertook a fellowship at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong 2010, where regular robotic and advanced natural orifice laparoscopic surgery is undertaken. He was then selected for one of only two nationally selected Ethicon Bariatric fellowships at North Tyneside Hospital 2011-2012. Mr Khera has a keen interest in surgical training and education and was elected President of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) 2011-2012. He has numerous publications and has presented his clinical research and on behalf of ASiT both nationally and internationally. He performs most general surgeries laparoscopically and is part of the emergency surgical on call rota as a substantive Consultant General Surgeon at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS trust.
I enjoy interior design and DIY and love gardening with my six year old daughter – growing some our own fruit, vegetables and herbs. I enjoy the great outdoors especially cycling, canoeing, horse riding and skiing. My hobbies also include amateur astronomy and astrophysics. I was shortlisted for astronaut interview in Hamburg, Germany by the European Space Agency in July 2008.
