Professional Profile

Dr Jonathan Richenberg is a consultant radiologist at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.

Having completed a biochemistry degree at King’s College, Cambridge, he went on to study medicine at New College Oxford (first class degree). Postgraduate training, first in medicine (MRCP obtained 1993) and then in Radiology (FRCR 1997) took place at the Middlesex and University College Hospitals in London. Dr Richenberg spent a year in Vancouver. He was appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer to Brighton and Sussex Medical School (2002), Clinical Lead for Imaging (2006-2009), CT Lead (2009).

Dr Richenberg has a specialist interest in urological, nephrological (renal) and gynaecological imaging, being the lead uroradiologist in BSUH NHS Trust. He is a member of the European Society of Uroradiology, a founding member of British Society of Uroradiology and a member of the Sussex Urological Cancer committee. He is involved in developing local protocols for investigating patients with a variety of problems, such as haematuria, urinary tract infections and renal stones.

Dr Richenberg’s other main interest is infertility, in both male and female patients. He has developed new screening techniques for recanalization of fallopian tubes, and in IUD retrieval.

Since taking up post in Sussex, he has written several articles and chapters and lectures on prostate disease and urological conditions locally, nationally (Royal College of Radiologists) and internationally (European Guidelines for use on MRI in prostate cancer 2012). Recently, his expertise in urology and prostate disease has led to appointment to the NICE guidance development group for prostate cancer, recommendations and new guidance due 2013.
