Professional Profile
Trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Mr Jonathan Hyde’s practice is now solely based around adult cardiac surgery. He is widely experienced in all forms of adult cardiac surgery and he has performed over 2,500 major heart operations.
Mr Hyde’s specific specialist interests are aortic surgery and minimally-invasive (keyhole) surgery for atrial fibrillation, in which he is one of the pioneers of this technique in the UK. He also performs coronary artery bypass surgery and all forms of heart valve surgery. Working well as part of a cohesive network of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and anaesthetists in Sussex, Mr Hyde believes that the team approach is fundamental to best patient care.
Mr Hyde is originally from London, but has worked as a surgeon in a variety of cardiac units in London and the West Midlands. He is involved in a large number of non-clinical roles concerning cardiac surgery in the UK, and sits on several national committees. He also has a long-term commitment to teaching and education in the speciality, having held central roles in UK training.
Personal Profile
Married with two daughters, Mr Hyde has a wide range of interests outside surgery. These include golf, skiing, opera, cricket, rugby, bridge, wine, literature, films and theatre. He also loves to travel and tries to make the most of his time outside of work.
