Professional Profile
I'm a consultant ENT surgeon with experience in all disorders of the ear nose throat and neck, but with a special interest in otology (disease of the ear).
I treat a range of conditions, including hearing loss, tinnitus, glue ear, holes in the eardrum, and cholesteatoma. I currently run the regional ear implant service. At the end of my training I was awarded the TWJ Otology Fellowship as the top trainee in ear surgery in the UK. In my first year as a consultant I won an award for excellent patient care.
I have diverse academic interests in ear disease and global health. I was formally Phizackerley Senior scholar at Balliol College Oxford where my DPhil was in genetic susceptibility to otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear). I now work on global ear disease, and have trained health workers in Cambodia, Nepal, South Africa, Fiji, Malawi, Zambia and Uganda. I am consultant to the WHO program on prevention of deafness and hearing loss.
Finally, I work with national and international partners on environmental and labour rights harms in healthcare supply chains, and on this topic am advisor to several government organisations.
