Montefiore Hospital hires top chef
The Montefiore Hospital has hired an award winning chef, Mark Hancock, to head up the catering department.
The hospital, aims to offer restaurant standard cuisine to its patients and staff. Mark Hancock has a wide experience of different catering establishments including exclusive West End restaurants. His previous post was Executive Chef at the University of Sussex where he won the Craft Guild of Chefs cross sector ‘Chef of the year 2012’ award.
Mark is keen to take advantage of the wealth of high quality local produce, particularly fish, fruit and vegetables. Mark said: “I want to work as much as possible with suppliers from the local community to engage with the local community to produce sustainable menu options.”
James Dempster, the Commercial Manager at The Montefiore Hospital, said: “We are making every effort to ensure our patients are as comfortable as possible. With our theatre-style open kitchen and a sushi-bar, food plays a key role in the hospital. The appointment of Mark completes the picture.”
For Mark it is a whole new challenge: ‘’ I am looking forward to creating dishes for a totally new audience. I believe that good food is essential to health and wellbeing and I will be helping people get better, while doing what I love most.”
