The Montefiore Hospital provides echocardiograms in Brighton and Hove. An echocardiogram (also known as a cardiac ultrasound or cardiac echo), is a specialised ultrasound scan that uses ultrasound waves to produce pictures of your heart. Echocardiograms are used to diagnose cardiovascular diseases.
What's involved in having an echocardiogram?
An echocardiogram uses standard ultrasound techniques to produce a two-dimensional image of the heart. You will be required to sit or lie down as your consultant moves the ultrasound wand over your chest.
What does an echocardiogram show?
An echocardiogram can provide a range of information including the size, function and pressures of the heart, as well as information for assessing disease of the heart valves.
