Varicose Vein Surgery
The Montefiore Hospital offers a number of treatments for varicose veins. As well as treatments for varicose veins, we offer impartial advice and information on a range of vascular conditions and ailments. Treatment for varicose veins isn't always available on the NHS, but we have a variety of treatments that can help.
Varicose veins are caused by a failure of the valves in the superficial veins. This allows blood to flow in the wrong direction, outwards and down towards the foot. This puts too high a pressure in the superficial veins which stretch, dilate and elongate, in other words become ‘varicose’. Varicose veins should not be ignored. If treated early it is easier to get the legs back to normal. In general, the earlier treatment is carried out, the better the long term result.
Types of varicose vein treatments available
Our surgeons offer a number of different techniques for performing varicose vein surgery including;
- Radio-Frequency Ablation (VNUS closure)
- Foam sclerotherapy (Ultrasound-guided)
These are a minimally invasive techniques offering same day treatment that does not result in varicose vein removal, reducing post-operative discomfort and speeds up patient recovery, compared to conventional surgery.
