Professional Profile
I am an interventional and general cardiologist at University Hospitals Sussex. I am based at Worthing hospital and perform emergency life-saving procedures at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
I completed my training in Manchester, Boston (USA) and Auckland (NZ). I graduated with an Honours degree from The University of Manchester in 2006 and became a member of the royal college of physicians (MRCP) in 2009. I was awarded a British Heart Foundation (BHF) fellowship to complete my PhD research. My postdoctoral research took place at Harvard University and I was subsequently employed as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at the University of Manchester. I was awarded a British Cardiac Intervention Society (BCIS) fellowship and trained in complex cardiac interventions at the world renowned Greenlane centre (Auckland). I worked as a consultant in NZ before returning to UK and settling in beautiful Sussex.
I provide specialist clinics in all aspects of cardiology including chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizzy episodes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and murmurs.
I sub-specialise in coronary artery disease and perform angiography and angioplasty (stents) using state-of-the-art technologies including intra-vascular imaging (IVUS and OCT) as well performing tests such as pressure wire studies and microvascular assessment to fully assess the causes of chest pain and treat any significant disease.
I also perform non-invasive cardiac CT to assess the coronary health of my patients to provide a risk score for future cardiovascular events and discuss ways to try and reduce this risk. Prevention is key.
I am the Clinical Lead (head of department) for Cardiology at Worthing hospital. This is a challenging yet rewarding position and I strive to do my best to help shape the department to deliver the best care for our patients.
In addition to my clinical work, I am the Deputy Lead for undergraduate Medicine 303 at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. In this role, I help to organise, teach and examine the next generation of doctors.
