Professional Profile
I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at The Royal Sussex County Hospital, USH, and an expert on surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and rectal cancer. I have been trained in advanced minimally invasive surgery during my Higher Surgical Training in London and South West Thames region which I completed in 2015. Subsequently, I had further specialist training in complex anal fistula and inflammatory bowel surgery at St. Mark’s Hospital, St. George's and St. Thomas Hospital in London, where I gained extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery for low rectal cancer, pouch surgery, complex fistula repair and deep endometriosis.
During my training I embarked a scientific collaboration with the Hepatobiliary Department of University of Verona, Italy which led to a PhD awarded in 2012. Publications from the thesis include association of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and primary duodenal cancer.
I have performed over 4000 general and colorectal surgical procedures including laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, laparoscopic anterior resection, complex anal fistulae repair, and abdominal wall hernias. I am also national trainer on colonoscopy accredited by the JAG Endoscopy Training System.
As colorectal surgeon, I was part of the Royal Derby Endometriosis Centre team which achieved the status of accredited unit from the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy in 2021. I am also member of the European Endometriosis League.
I am the Surgical IBD lead at Royal County Sussex Hospital where I work in close contact with the IBD dietician team and gastroenterology colleagues in order to optimise Crohn’s patients prior to their surgery.
I am an Honorary Senior Lecture at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School.
At present I am enrolled on an online course to achieve a Diploma in Football Medicine supported by FIFA medical network.
Personal Profile
My personal interests include football, long walks and cycling over the South Downs, Opera and classical ballet. As season ticket holder, I enjoy to go to the Amex Stadium with my teenage son watching Brighton and Hove Albion playing in Premier League, and I also love social summer evenings listening to the Opera as member of the Grange Park Opera in Surrey.
