Professional Profile

Mr Alastair Robertson is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in trauma and limb reconstruction. With over a decade of experience in this field, provides expertise in complex fracture management, deformity correction, limb lengthening, non-union surgery and the management of bone infection. Currently works in the Major Trauma Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. His practice is supported by advanced fellowship training at St George’s Hospital - Tooting, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital - Stanmore, and Groote Schuur Hospital - Cape Town. He delivers a comprehensive, modern and multidisciplinary approach to complex limb problems.

Mr Alastair Robertson specialises in trauma and limb reconstruction.

His trauma practice encompasses the management of upper and lower-limb fractures, including complex peri-articular injuries and foot and ankle trauma. He has a particular interest in orthoplastic reconstruction for combined bone and soft-tissue injuries.

His limb reconstruction practice includes all aspects of deformity correction, non-union management (fractures that have not healed), limb-lengthening for limb-length discrepancy and stature lengthening. He uses both internal fixation and external circular frames, enabling bespoke, patient-centred treatment strategies.

Mr Alastair Robertson has pioneered the clinical use of bone transport nails for the management of segmental bone defects and is currently the highest-volume surgeon worldwide for this treatment. His practice integrates bone transport with limb lengthening when required and offers early weight bearing to all patients undergoing treatment for bone loss.

In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, he remains actively involved in international collaboration and surgical education. Regularly teaches on advanced limb reconstruction courses—covering the Taylor Spatial Frame, bone transport techniques and motorised lengthening devices—and contributes to the training and mentorship of surgeons both in the UK and overseas.
