Professional Profile

I have worked as a GP in Brighton for the past 12 years and during that time have really enjoyed the wide variety of work that general practice has offered. I enjoy working with patients to address their health concerns and improve their quality of life I am experienced and confident in managing a complete range of primary care problems covering all aspects of general medicine along with dermatological, musculoskeletal, ear/nose/throat, allergy, women's health and mental health issues.

My expertise lies in listening to patients in order to make accurate diagnoses and provide exceptional care. This involves remaining up-to-date with the best treatments available based on the most current and robust evidence.

A key part part of my practice is being approachable and kind. I am an empathic and thoughtful person and find satisfaction in providing my patients with the best possible care and supporting them through that process. I also understand the limitations of my own practice and know how and when to seek advice from my specialist colleagues.

I am the Clinical Lead for the Urgent Treatment Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. In addition to working there as a GP I am now responsible for reforming the department to ensure that the people we see each day who walk into A&E receive safe, prompt and effective care.

I am also the GP Clinical Lead for HERE, a not-for-profit organization in Brighton which provides out of hours access to GPs via telephone and face-to-face consultations 365 days a year. In addition to working in the service as a GP my role involves ensuring the service is accessible and that we provide an excellent experience for patients based on the latest evidence and guidance.

During my general practice career I have continued to publish medical research and was involved the the HYVET trial - the largest ever randomized control study of hypertension in those over 80 years of age.

Prior to studying medicine I completed a degree in politics, philosophy and economics at Jesus College, Oxford University. I was subsequently the youngest ever columnist for the Globe and Mail newspaper in Canada and a regular TV commentator on finance matters for Canada's national network, CBC.
