Professional Profile

Emma Chojnowska has treated patients with chronic pain for over 20 years focussing on a holistic approach and helping patients to make the best choice of many treatment options. 

After gaining a medical degree in Cambridge she trained as a specialist followed by further training in Pain Medicine in Auckland, New Zealand and a Pain Medicine Fellowship in Bristol. She was first appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine in 2000. 

Her interests include 

  • Reducing patient reliance on medication.
  • Discussion of lifestyle factors which can be causing or contributing to pain.
  • Injection and Radiofrequency treatments for neck and back pain, trapped nerves in the spine, painful scars, joint pain, pain after joint replacement, neuropathic pain, occipital neuralgia and abdominal wall pain.  

She is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine. She has presented research on lumbar facet joint injections at the British Pain Society and continues to investigate long term patient outcomes following injection treatments. She has an interest in teaching as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and co-directs Royal College of Surgeons Trauma courses.  

Personal Interests

Emma lives in Sussex. She enjoys travel, squash and sports with her family.
